Will Israel give its land back to Palestine?

The state of Israel has now occupied Palestine and its people for a very long time. It is a repeated history of people from a different country takes control of a land, set its own rules and borders and make the original native people the oppressed. Some destroy the original native people or reduce their numbers significantly as was evident in the United States of America with the Indians. Some make sure they remain in control by sheer numbers. They move the native inhabitants into their “land” and take control of the rest.

In some areas the minority “settlers” creates rules of separation between themselves and the native people. This was evident in South Africa and is still the case in Israel. In South Africa the ruling minority realized (or was forced to realize) that they’ve made a mistake and that they need to hand the control to the majority in the land.

For this process to happen peacefully both sides needs to give up something. The side currently in control needs to know they have to hand over (give way) this control and the previously oppressed needs to take control over without the need for prosecution. Both sides need to compromise and give up something.

In South Africa it worked very well by the means of a process called; Truth and Conciliation. The process works where any previous transgressors of Human rights may receive pardon or amnesty in return for full testimony. This process resulted in the transition from a minority white government to a black government without bloodshed or civil war as everyone predicted during those days.

Can the people of Israel do the same? Firstly, would they recognize that they have received a piece of Palestine illegally? Do they recognize that England had no right to offer Jews a piece of this land, just like they had no right to offer Uganda to the Jews in 1903?

In this world we have many nationalities with many borders. Do we really need borders based upon religion? Why must the Jews have their own land? Do Muslims, Christians, Buddhists ask for their own piece of land? Why cant people live together without borders? Within countries we even have economical borders between the haves and have not’s.

Will Israel realize the injustice and hand the land back to its rightful owners? Will the Palestinians be able to negotiate a peaceful transition should this hand-over ever happen? Let’s hope there will be some sort of resolve in this region, otherwise we will see other countries getting involved and a potential World War 3 will be on our doorsteps.

"Will Israel realize the injustice and hand the land back to its rightful owners?"

What makes them so rightful? I am fairly sure neither side has a reason that transcends the other to claim rightful ownership of the land there.

USA & England created Israel after WW2. Israel has since taken additional land, all rightfully the land of palestinians.

it will be a very long time before they will win their land back.

only when america is weaker will it be possible for the palestinians to rise up & reclaim their land.

the USA pump millions into Israel each year so they can boost their military & extend their settlements. it is a disgracefull situation.

in response to the first comment:

Yes, what is now Israel used to be a Jewish kingdom. However, it has also through out history been controlled by Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Sassanian rule. The timeline of the jewish kingdom was relatively short when you look at the big picture. If you follow the principle that "Who controlled the land in history should control the land at present" then America should be given to the natives, the Iberian peninsula to the arabs, etc etc.

Also, Iran is not and never has been an Arab country. Most of the people in Iran are Persians or related ethnic groups. They speak farsi, not arabic. Most Iranians also follow Shi'a islam, not Sunni islam like the majority of the arab world

its sad u had to write this article without ever realizing that the jews aren't in control of Palestine, because there is no Palestine. and you are wrong on everything you said, as was explained in the other posted comments. i apologize you had to waste your time writing this false paper just because you are ignorant and have an extreme lack on knowledge. better luck on your next essay

All through history people have concord land and possessed it for there oun good. The USA has taken control of Iraq, be it for weapons or oil I don't know but are now occuping it. Israel currently ouns the land in question and should have it for their oun safety. One statement said many people have occupied the land in past history why shouldn't Israel. By giving it up there will be no peace. The Muslims will not be satified till they push the Jews into the sea. And thats not likely to happen any time soon.

"for those who posted some real idiot comments, i would tell them that they are trying to spread false facts (if it is to be named so)..."

WOW, I've never read so many lies in the rest of your comment, you tell people to go read history but you OBVIOUSLY do not know history.
A. The Jewish people were there first. With the Kingdom of David in 970 B.C.
B. Palestine was currently conquered by the Allies after WW2, Britain didn't magically decide to give Israel random land. BRITAIN actually OWNED that territory. AND BTW, A huge part of that area was already Jewish, the majority of it in fact.
C. Yeah, the Jewish conquered the west bank, so what? The Palestinians had it coming. Palestine has invaded Israel 6 times!!! Each time without provocation, the Jewish just beat their asses down with superior military. And before you say ANYTHING against that comment, pick up a book and go read you idiot! Since 1947 there have been numerous invasion attempts by Palestine/Egypt/Jordan/Syria/Lebanon. The only difference is that Egypt and Jordan were smart enough to sign peace treaties after getting their asses handed to them. They were intelligent!
Anyway, Palestine invaded Israel 6 times and lost, Israel struck back. IN EVERY OTHER WAR INVADING NATIONS HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN LAND. SO WHAT MAKES THIS ONE ILLEGAL IN YOUR EYES?! Maybe it's because your anti-semitic, maybe your an idiot, I don't know. Personally I think your both.
D. The first couple of times Palestine declared war on Israel, Israel kept NO land from Palestine. It was only the last 2 official wars between them that Israel decided to keep land.
E. Palestine is lead by a terrorist organization...I mean...my god...AHH!...You wan't Israel to show weakness to a country who's politicians platform was "Kill the Jews"...OMG! Can you say Nazi, Oh wait, that's right, THEY ARE NAZI'S...
F. BEFORE PPL COMMENT, THEY SHOULD GO READ HISTORY, AND RANDOM ANTI JEW/ANTI ISLAMIC WEBSITES YOU (AND POSSIBLY YOUR SKIN HEAD BODIES FIND) DO NOT COUNT!!!!

I'm sorry to those people who may have taken offence to my post. This was directly intended at the idiot that I originally quoted.

Seriously, you can be on either side of the arguement and I will not mind at all, I will not insult you or make fun of you, I will listen openly to your opinion. But if you just post lies then yes, I'm going to be an a**hole back.

Thanks :-D

The Israeli's were given the land by the British, who had taken it from the Ottoman Empire, who had taken in from the Mameluk rulers of Egypt, who had taken it from Kharezmian Tatars, who had conquered the land after it had flipped between Christian and Islamic rule on and off for centuries following the Crusades. The Crusaders had initially conquered the region from the Abbasid dynasty, which had succeeded the Umayyad cailpihate which had conquered the region off of the Byzantine Empire, which was a successor to the Roman Empire which had gradually subjugated the Jewish kingdom in the region through a series of increasingly unequal treaties which culminated in the Great Jewish Revolt of 70 AD and annexation by Rome. The Jewish kingdom prior to this had rebelled from Hellenic control which had followed from the conquest of the region by Alexander the Great, during which control over Jerusalem had been wrestled from the ancient Persian Empire.

I could keep going further back to mention the Babylonians, the Kingdoms of Soloman and David, The Hittites, and beyond that history blurs into legend and speculation...

Consider the above facts, and then tell me who has a right to this land?

If your answer is anything but "everybody" or "nobody", then you're not thinking hard enough.

Very interesting indeed... Ian writes regularly articles about a wide range of topics but nothing draws more attention than the subject of Jews/Israel...what most people, that are placing their comments here, are missing is Ian's intention. He is seeking for the truth. He writes articles about topics that interest him and publishing them here to get other people's opinion too to be able to help him finding the answers he is looking for. He is not judgeing anyone...he is asking questions.

My blood is always boiling when I read comments from anonymous people saying that Ian is an idiot or trying to belittle him. Loads of people on the Net doesn't have the gutts to write about these topics and also doesn't have the gutts to identify themselves. You do not have to always agree with Ian's point of view but there is an intelligent/constructive way to give your opinion that most of you are missing here.

Ian, keep up the good work. There are some good guys out there appreciating you articles... and for that it definitly worths going on.

BTW... I mostly agree with you...;)
